Hey guys, I finally finished my first official TAS of this game, and what a marvelous time to get with it. This run features numerous tiny (and large) skips, mostly abusing ICGs (instant ice cube grabs) and Kaizo jumps to skip small sections, as well as a significantly large section in "Under the Ice", numerous cycle skips, and generally perfect movement. This run however, did not involve corner correction abuse, more commonly known as "boosting" where you can nudge Tux's hitbox against others to save 1-2F each time. A run involving boosting may save an additional 3-4 seconds over the course of the run, although boosting with the air flower is extremely hard to TAS and find optimal boost routes, due to sub-pixel shenanigans (It is also hard to boost route powerupless, but you have more opportunities to boost since your speed is lower). The run also abuses the air flower mechanics greatly, allowing for a trick called hover-stalling, where you glide and glide cancel repeatedly to clear large gaps. This is particularly useful in "Ice in the Hole" in order to skip a global cycle. This run was done in about 80 hours, and aimed to highlight the extent of which ICGs and Kaizos can do in this game.
This is a tool assisted speedrun. For more information on what a TAS is please visit TASvideos.org.
